Refund policy
Hawkeye Marine Refund, Warranty, and Core Policy
At Hawkeye Marine, we accept returns within 30 days of purchase for most unused, uninstalled items in original packaging. Powerheads, engines, motors, lower units, and other major warrantied components are not returnable for refund or exchange once installed or used—they are covered exclusively by manufacturer warranties (or non-warranty repair options—see below). - Return Period You have 30 days from the date of purchase to return or exchange an eligible item. No returns on powerheads, lower units, or other major components once installed or used.
- Eligibility Items must be unused, uninstalled, undamaged, and in original packaging. Installed, used, altered, or modified items are not eligible for return.

- Downloadable software or digital products
- Lower units, powerheads, engines, motors, tilt/trim units, starters, and alternators (once installed or under warranty)
- Any item showing signs of use, installation, damage, misuse, or negligence

Return Process
- Contact us with your order number and reason for return.
- We will provide guidance and a Return Authorization Number (RAN) if required.
- Package securely and include your packing slip/order confirmation.
- You are responsible for return shipping costs using a trackable, insured method. Abandoned Items: Unauthorized returns, unclaimed warranty evaluations, or items with no customer response after notification (60 days for standard returns; 30 days for quoted non-warranty repairs) may be considered abandoned property. Abandoned items may be disposed of, scrapped, or resold at our discretion, with no further refund or obligation.
- Preferred Shipping Methods Use UPS or FedEx for tracking and insurance. Contact us for instructions on larger items.
- Refund or Exchange Upon inspection, approved returns will be refunded to the original payment method (3–5 business days) or exchanged. Warrantied items are not eligible for refund—see Warranty and Non-Warranty Repair Information.
- Restocking Fee A 20% restocking fee may apply (higher for items requiring significant reprocessing). We will communicate this upfront.
- Damaged or Defective Items Contact us immediately if an item arrives damaged or defective. We will guide resolution.

Warranty Information Major components carry limited manufacturer warranties (typically 1 year through suppliers like OBR Parts—specific terms available on request). Coverage applies only to defects in materials or workmanship under normal use. Warranties are void for:
- Improper installation, setup, or adjustments (e.g., incorrect timing, over-advancing ignition)
- Misuse, negligence, overheating, over-revving, or operation outside specifications
- Damage from customer or mechanic error (e.g., burned pistons/cylinders)
- Lack of maintenance, contamination, or modifications Warranty claims process:
- Claims are evaluated by the manufacturer.
- Customers must obtain a Return Authorization Number (RAN) directly from the manufacturer. Do not use core return labels for warranty items.
- Inbound shipping to the manufacturer is the customer's responsibility (freight prepaid).
- If no warranty coverage applies, see Non-Warranty Repairs below.
- No refunds are issued under warranty—repairs or replacements are at manufacturer discretion.

Non-Warranty Repairs/Rebuilds If a returned item is determined to have damage due to customer negligence, misuse, or improper installation (Deemed as No warranty coverage), however we can quote a paid rebuild or replacement through the manufacturer.
- Rebuild/replacement cost varies by model (typically $400–$800, plus our handling fee).
- Freight is $145 each way for Powerheads and $85 each way for Lower Units. (shipping rate 2026)
- Total quote will include rebuild cost + handling/admin fee + round-trip freight.
- Payment is required in full upfront before any work or shipping is initiated.
- If no payment or response within 30 days of quote, the item will be considered abandoned property (see section 4).

Core Return Information Many remanufactured items are sold with no upfront core deposit.
- Return your rebuildable old core (prepaid label provided) for a refund of up to the full core value after OBR inspection.
- Cores are evaluated for reusability (e.g., powerhead block ≈60%, internals ≈40%). Reduced or zero value applies if damaged/unusable.
- Package cores properly—damage in shipping due to poor packaging may reduce or void refund.
- Hawkeye Marine forwards the exact amount credited by OBR to the customer. No additional fees are deducted from the core refund.
- Core refunds are processed after OBR evaluation and payment to Hawkeye Marine.
